Paying for Therapy

What do you charge?

Most experienced clinical psychologists charge between $125 and $175 for a standard therapy hour. Clinicians with more experience or who specialize generally charge more for their services. I do not have a sliding scale, but I try to work with potential clients to make therapy affordable.

How is the fee handled?

My fee for a 50-minute session is payable at each session, by check or by cash, unless other arrangements are made. I do not take credit cards. Having your payment ready in advance avoids using therapy time for this matter. If you are using insurance, you need to plan to pay me and seek reimbursement from your insurance company. I will provide you with an invoice for this purpose when you request it.

Do you accept insurance?

I am not on any insurance panels. Therefore, I am considered to be an out-of-net provider. You may still be able to obtain some reimbursement for my services, depending on your insurance coverage. If you expect to use insurance, please check your coverage carefully. Be sure to ask the following questions:

  1. Do I have mental health benefits?
  2. What is my deductible and has it been met?
  3. How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?
  4. How much do you pay for an out-of-net provider?
  5. Is there a limitation on how much you will pay per session?

Are there any extra charges in addition to the fee for the therapy session?

If you require testing for ADD and for a report to be written, there is a different fee, and this would be discussed with you in advance. If you require additional professional services, such as filling out insurance forms or forms for the State, preparing records or treatment summaries, or appearing in court, additional charges will be made. Likewise, if it is necessary to do off-site exposure/response prevention interventions for an anxiety disorder, an extra charge will be made. Any extra charges will be discussed in advance with you.
